You are getting divorced...how can you effectively communicate with your soon-to-be-ex. Here are a few tips on how to effectively communicate:
1) Don’t involve the children/family/friends
Your family and friends are not professional mediators. Try not to send messages to your ex through your loved ones. Messages often get lost in translation and also including children or family can ultimately be detrimental to your relationship with them.
2) Avoid communicating through social media posts
Remember, what you post, even if you delete it can be saved, printed, or captured by screen-shot. Avoid venting or bashing your soon-to-be-ex on social media. These messages do not disappear and can come back to haunt you.
3) Communicate through your attorney
Your attorney is your advocate and when things are overly contentious, discuss your concerns with your attorney, and they can recommend other professionals such as mediators or negotiators to assist you in resolving these issues.
4) Use a co-parenting app such as Our Family Wizard or AppClose
These applications have been designed to assist parents in communicating. Since all messages are recorded, parents tend to communicate amicably and communications most always are kept limited to the mutual children….no more venting! Additionally, these apps have other features such as tracking child expenses and splitting costs electronically.
